Nathan was born in Oklahoma, and Jared and Caleb were born in and around, Tennessee. Jared attended, while Matthew was born and raised in Mississippi. According to magazine, 'While Ivan preached at churches and tent revivals throughout Oklahoma and the Deep South, the boys attended services and were occasionally enlisted to bang on some drums'.

So, I'm not sure if this will even get a response or if this is the appropriate place for this, but here goes. Picked up a Remo Quadura kit at a garage sale the other day.for obvious reasons, it was only $15.00 for the whole thing. Huge, virgin 20 x 24' bass drum, monstrous, virgin 16 x 18' floor tom in a cradle and a beastly, virgin 10 x 12' tom. Odd sizes for sure, heavy as lead due to the Acousticon shells. Really tempted to turn that 18' floor tom into a solid little bass drum, but I'll leave it up to the forum to decide the fate of this odd trio. What say ye????
Edited by Redfern, 04 January 2010 - 08:39 PM.
We say we need pics! I think this relates to what I've just been saying an a different thread. Whatever you do, use it and enjoy it or sell/donate it to someone who will. Some people would kill to have a kit half as good as that.
I don't mind what you do with it, but please don't burn t (that was jok e I'm sure ) I'm not you mom, but don't let it waste away in a garage because you own something beter! You have other kit(s) and you only bought this for 15 bucks. If your gonna use it and enjoy then I can't think of a better home for it, but at 15 bucks you could sell it on for what? 20 and make a profit not only in your wallet. But in you heart!!!! That was all abit cheeeeezy but you get my point?
Sounds like your not too atached to it! I just don't want it to stay that way! Enjoy it or sell it on, it needs to be loved!!!! I could see wrapping the 18' to match another kit that you have and want a jazzy little bass drum for.
Of course you'd have to instal spurs and bass drum hoops, but that might not be all that much and it would probably make a nice bass drum. Sell off the other stuff.
Or keep those drums around for when you need a kit to play in that really heavy, really loud group. I'm not really into those sizes (except for that '18 as a bass drum) but I could see that if I had those on my hands, I might be wanting to try and use them for something.
Otherwise, maybe try offering up a trade on your local Craigslist. Someone out there might be into those sizes and know how nice these drums are. And be looking to unload some other kind of kit that you may want.
Those are definitely early Master Touch drums. They may or may NOT be acousticon R or 516 shells.
If the interior of the shells are 5/16' and very dark brown or black, they are acousticon R or 516 shells. If they are brown inside and thinner, they are the 286 shells of the original formulation. Still good sounding drums but not as durable. I had the earliest Master Touch drums and they were NOT 516 'R' shells.
They are still the house kit at Chelsea Recording Studio here in Nashville and work great. They never leave that studio, so durability is less of a factor.
Comments about Vandoren Alto Saxophone Reeds: I used these exclusively back when I played in high school. I was on a Bundy II (nightmare) so the only thing I could afford to spend extra on was reeds and mouthpieces. And let me tell you, these made an immediate improvement compared to cheaper Rico reeds. This was a great reed, definitely built for classical playing. However, for jazz stuff I used my teeth to compress the area of the reed right behind the tip where it started to thicken for a brighter tone. This worked well and had the added benefit of being easier to tongue and prolonging the life of the reed. I even used that for my brief fling in a ska band.Speaking of the thinner tip, it makes articulation very easy.
Also, I was never fast on the tongue and tended to do aggressive double tonguing. The only complaint I had was that the thinner tip was more prone to chipping with my double tonguing - a small sacrifice for great sound and playability.Overall a great reed with a very warm sound. This was one of the reasons I was able to hold down first chair with a crappy Bundy II.
